May 20th, 2010 Tips to Having the Best Camping Experience in Idaho
Unlike many US states, the major attraction for tourists in Idaho (capital: Boise) is not a theme park, but the state itself. Idaho, quite simply, is a haven for campers and nature lovers because it is a beautiful place. The natural wonders it offers, from crystal clear lakes and rivers, snow covered mountain tops and granite formations, to fascinating flora and fauna and tree-covered forests is boundless. It is thus not surprising that Idaho has the greatest number of wildlife acres placed under federal protection.
If you are an avid camper, a trip to Idaho should be on your list of must-dos. Below are a few tips on how to have the best camping experience in the Gem State, and possibly, of your life. Enjoy!
* Expect to experience something new everyday. Camping in Idaho means being ready to experience new things and see wonderful landscapes. Recreation and relaxation is the name of the game, and whether you simply want to unwind on a sandy beach fronting one of the many lakes in the area, or sweat your everyday worries away by hiking or rock climbing, Idaho camping has an activity to suit your preference. Thus, it is important that you are well equipped with the right camping supplies and equipment.
* Appreciate the history of the area. A visit to any of the regions in Idaho will surely bring your closer to the history of the state and even the country. Hells Canyon, for example, features numerous ancient Native American ruins as well as gold mining artifacts from the last century. The famed Lewis and Clark party also traveled through the lower parts of the canyon in 1806 during their return from the Pacific.
* Prepare a checklist of your camping supplies. A checklist is not really useful before a camping trip, but even after the trip is over and you are getting ready to go home. Don’t ruin a perfectly good camping vacation by forgetting something in the campsite, making that the last memory you have of your camping experience. Use the checklist to ensure that everything that need to be pack is packed and good to go.
* Bond with your family. Camping is more exciting and enjoyable when you have the whole family with you. There is nothing better than bonding over a fire, exchanging stories, and just communing with nature with the people you love. Bring along several camp tents if that is your preference, or opt to use a family-sized tent which can hold up to eight family members, plus your camping supplies. There is a wide variety of camp tents available in the market and there is sure to be one that fits your family’s requirements.
* Know thy weather. The varied elevations within even just one Idaho state park or national reserve often leads to drastically different weather in just one day. A hot sunny day can turn into a cold night; snow can even fall any time of the year. Make sure your camp tents can provide you adequate protection regardless of the weather. Getting sick in the middle of a camping trip can dampen every camper’s spirit.
